A new journal from me!

And it's for a good cause, since as of today, the Roger tribute movie has been released just about one year ago, which marks my *real* start here on DA. :w00t:

( I mean, I've signed up much longer ago... but... I kinda hide in the shadows back then....... no avatar, no signature, no art, null................ For my ultimate kickin' rocket boostpower backflippin' startup-flash movie was not complete yet! :plotting: )

It's been a great year :lol: :D, I'd guess I could say I've made friends with a few people,
expanded my flash talents, gained another group of fans (yes, now I practically have two different fan groups ...I'm going to come back on this later :XD: :giggles: ), and even was part of ... err... two drawings!  Horray! :D… (christmas gift drawing by LazzyAsHell)… (uh... look in the lower right corner! As if I was going to scream "I'm in here too!! wheeeeeeeeeeee!!!11!" ^^; :XD: )

Let's take a look way back how all this started;

It's no big secret that I'm a big fan of Roger van der Weide :iconrogerregorroger:,
and it's probably not very unknown that I infact made up my mind to actually get into flash because of him. :nod:

It was on that faitfull day of the ... 5th or 6th of March 2006, that I opened up my flash 8 trial and randomly started drawing roger-ish looking Sonic characters.
(well, I of cause was constantly starring at Roger's stuff for reference.)
My very VERY VEEEERY first walking attempts with flash, from my first day I ever used flash, have been added to my scraps.  ultra-the-hedgehog.deviantart.… & ultra-the-hedgehog.deviantart.…
Sadly, the first *.fla I ever had corrupted itself on the first day, too, thus began the reign of me backupping everything. :evillaugh:

(Random fun fact: Did you know that throughout the production of "A Random Tribute To Roger Van Der Weide", over 248 backup copies were made? :crazy: )

Anyway - the fact that the result actually looked quite less awfull then I'd have anticipated, but rather, somewhat "rogerish" made me continue and actually draw a comic with my remaining 18 days of the trial (I had screwed up the first 12 by installing the trial but not using it ^^; )
This comic was completed at the final day of the trial and is available here:

I was amazed what I was capable of, it looked so... rogerish! :D :w00t:

And this made up my mind to get flash.

Also, it was one kinda when I decided to talk with Rogertheman himself,
and so the ultimate something of extreme destiny ...began....

UltramasterBDJ says:
Hello there
Only yell at mah if ya have something to say,  ya landlobbers, or aye'll curse southern french chinese fish upon ya! says:
UltramasterBDJ says:
don't throu fish please
Only yell at mah if ya have something to say,  ya landlobbers, or aye'll curse southern french chinese fish upon ya! says:
nah, my monitor is already to dirty

Not long, but a few months later, I started working on the bonus ending of the movie I was making at the time, which was intended to become my first flash movie (which, of course, I haven't finished to this very day, oooooh, the irony :roll: )
This bonus ending was an adaption of The Weebl's "Badger Badger Badger", and practically went like this:
"Roger Roger Roger, Icecream Icecream!"</b>

About two months of probably less intensive work went into the silly dancing Rogers :O_o:
(I can only believe it was because I was mainly working on two other movies and that other flash at the same time)
And then, I had an idea:

which I sadly have forgotten by now, but eh, and so, the movie became a little more than "just" "badger replaced with roger" and "mushroom replaced with icecream".
And then, it exploded.

My ideas for the movie, I mean, in one huge big creative explosion.

ANd it went on and on and on, moved to a seperate file then the other project which I already had abandoned by then (which I however occasionally return to, so not all hope is lost), and more and more and more...

After 5 months I finally took a stopwatch for the first time and was shocked to find out about the length of this non-sensical arangement of pointless scenes;
it was already over 8 minutes long, and I had never even noticed! :jawdrop:

And then, finally, on that fatefull evening, on the 28th of May, 2007, I showed a pre-final version to Roger.
(for the protocol: it was 10:05pm and two seconds, when he started watching it)

You all know how the movie begins, and some of you might remember what that scene is called,
it's called "distractive opening", and doesn't give any hint at the following movie.

You know how this scene goes, as it begins it looks awkward, like a bad, baaaad first-attempt flashmovie.

And then, it melts. :evillaugh:

Now, I didn't tell Roger I was working on this movie, nor what movie I just gave him to watch....

And so, Roger Van Der Weide learned about "A Random Tribute To Roger Van Der Weide" exactly 1 year, 8 days, 21 hours and 41 minutes after I had begun production on the movie. :XD: :typerhappy: :laughing: :evillaugh:

"Surprise, surprise."  : D

(the 1,0243930745814307458143074581428 years [minute-precision] were of course not spent entirely on the movie's production, but there were a few breaks inbetween, so it  rather were 6 to 8 months rather then 12.)

And a few day later, I released it on DA.

I sadly don't know the exact date. :(

It must have been somewhen around June 7th, 10:43pm in the evening or odd so. :lol:
(cause that's the rendering-time of the uploaded version)
(I like being exactly. : D)

...aaaaaaaaaaand, that's how it all started! :D

It truly was a pain to keep it a secret for all that time, but once it was out, it kinda, uhhh... let me formulate it like this:

This has been quite a difference from my youtube celebrity-ish-ness, as here, I actually got to know a few people,
while on youtube, even though I have 741 subscribers, almost all of them remain a vague, undetermined mass oO;

Which is partly my own fault, partly a simple problem with Youtube's nature itself :(

On DA, I got to know ppl first through their art.
On Youtube, for that I'd have to probably watch thousands of thousands of hours of videos,
having no clue which of them the artist would want me to watch in order to gain my attention over all the other people o _O;

And not knowing where to start in the first place, having 741 subscribers o_o;

And also not being 100% certain weather or not the specific videos were made by the person who uploaded them, as on youtube,
it's common to just upload everything you can find...

(that's really cool for TV series though ^_^

Finally saw the first episodes of Sonic X Series 2 which I missed out on TV back then due to the emotional ending of Series 1 ('oh no, the series is going to be over in 5 episodes!! We're never going to see each other again! Whaaaaaa!!' )  being almost directly followed by the start of second series over here in good ol' Germany. ^^;
Yeah, so like, one or two months later, I accidently zap there -
"Hey... what the... I don't know this episode! oO ...who's that green girl?! ô_Ô ...They're on a different PLANET?!?!?! WTF!!?!?" )

(On DA, this is much simpler, you often can judge a gallery, vaguely at least, by simply taking a look at the preview images.
That doesn't work that well with youtube videos, those previews can merely give you a hint what material was used / is it a drawn movie / youtube poop / videogame footage / Gary's Mod)

(that may sound as if I'd be judging people by their galleries, but, errrr, oh my god, look behind you, a three head monkey! ^^; ^^;)

To make this clear: On my youtube account,
:iconover9000plz: I have OVER 809 THOUSAAAAAND Video views, :iconwhat9000plz:
with some vids of mine on their own already having more (or by FAR more) views than I have over here, AT ALL, for EVERYTHING COMBINED. :lol: :giggle: :evillaugh:

But, since I have so many people watching and subscribing and commenting over there, it's a hell to keep track off. :(
I can hardly remember any names there, and I don't have any idea where to start if I intended to get to know my fans there, since they're so many! o_o;;

So... yeah, I can see how this must be for the over-the-top-mega-super famous artists, with millions of views, who have no chance to even read their comments : /

And if I'd be doing any extreme actions in "getting to know them" (e.g., upload a video asking what stuff they like, which of my vids they liked the most, bla bla), I better have enough time to go through all of the massive response I can expect then :O_o: let's not hurry, I wouldn't have THAT much time for that right now - university -_-

So, long story short, I'm way more famous on youtube, but I like DA better :iconimhappyplz:

I'm glad a few of them also have a DA account, so, err, a little head up to those guys, err, sorry if I didn't respond to your comments on youtube,
but here on DA, chances are much higher for me to actually notice them :XD:

(youtube really should put the writer's avatar on each comment... would be much easier to recognize people who commented on something else before...)
(and youtube should have a journal option, like DA...)
(and youtube should have the comments on the author's profile page have a "response"-option that notifies the person who's comments I'm answering on my main page... DA)
(and DA should have less strict copyright policies, like youtube ;P  )

Oh, and to all those who don't know my youtube account:…

Also, I have an alternate account, used so far only for one two-parter video:…

70% of these videos are not on DA, most of them were even made long before I came here.

Oh, and also, my website,, has it's ~3,0192308rd birthday today (that 3 years, 1 week a couple hours and minutes for those without calculators ;P )
mmmm, I think I'll be forced to shut down it's commenting system due to that horrible spam bot wreaking havoc over there. -_-

So, long story short before it even gets long in the first place:
Don't comment on my youtube account or my website, but on my deviantArt account, please.
It's the easiest way for me to keep track of everything ^^;

Well, and that's why I hardly put up new journals, because I always keep writing on and on and on and on ^^;
...I still have 3 or 4 odd so Tags I should responded to... o__O;

Eventually one day I could tell you how I tried to conquer German TV once, but that's a whole different story ~
Or how I once went right out of a burning building , off to McDonalds! :iconimhappyplz:
Wellllll, it wasn't really on fire... it was just the basement! ;D all I saw was just some smoke... and a fire engine. Ah well ^^

To sum this whole year up in one sentence:

And it's still more to come;

not only are there two bigger movies, which I left off somewhere in the middle, to continue them another day,
but of course there's also the Sonic-flash I'm working on right now.  :lol:
And I'm already on a point where I can savely say:

It is already over 10 minutes long, and I had never even noticed! :O_o:
(Sounds familliar?)

(I guess this movie's gonna rival Mr. Flashmovie-freezes-for-no-reason-at-the-end-of-the-flashmovie-when-the-flashmovie-is-longer-than-15-minutes once more ;))

And in addition to that, there's also some small stuff I intend to randomly glue together, to form something bigger...
You'll see...... You'll all see.... :evillaugh:

  • Watching: youtube
  • Drinking: applejuice

And yes, that was copying something that you said once... ish...
Well done and all, tho.

I wish I had flash...

Good luck with your stuff then.
And this is the best way to make good animation movies yeah.
Don't worry about how long it is and how people will like it and that you demand attentionimmediatly, just go on adding ideas untill you end somewhere. That's how I made Dumb movie and all in the past too.
Of course, with working iwth voice actors now, I am more tightly scripted these days.
Ah well.
Maybe one day you'll encounter the fun of voice actors too. Organisation hell.
UltraTheHedgetoaster Featured By Owner Jun 10, 2008  Hobbyist Artist
I suppose I better get going for voiceactors for my sonic movie, soon
I can hardly believe I'd manage to finish the movie off before the voiceactors send in their lines, but we might meet in the middle, somewhere.

(I don't get what's so problematic about just recording all of them in one go anyway. I do that myself all the time, well, except if I'm really busy with homework, or it's in the middle of the night, of course; can't risk to wake up my parents)

Yeah, but i contact them on my terms, so might e they just don't have time the moment I ask them, and after that, they forget I asked.

Wow! That's a lot to take in... I guess you were discussing the random tribute to Roger... :XD:
UltraTheHedgetoaster Featured By Owner Jun 9, 2008  Hobbyist Artist
"That's a lot to take in...

In the sense of "you wrote a lot!", or what does that mean? :?

"I guess you were discussing the random tribute to Roger"

well, yeah, I had a conversation with teh Roger back then, after watching he watched the movie for the first time, partly also about those two other movies which were already in a similar state compared with today's versions ( :XD: ^^; )

Or did I misinterpret your saying?
DCLeadboot Featured By Owner Jun 9, 2008  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Well, just that it was a very long journal. ^^;
I find so many journal in my community messages of a morning, there isn't always time to read all that! :XD:

Just passing by old messages and journals and stuff -

"there isn't always time to read all that" -
yeah, I know what you mean! ...which is why I also make use of one of the many freely available text-to-speech programs that tell me the contents of people's journals while I'm drawing something simultanously. ;)
DCLeadboot Featured By Owner Mar 12, 2011  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Heh, nice! :D
Actually, I recently did a severe re-org of my Manage Friends list, moving a select number of people I get along with well (such as yourself) into a group called Good Friends... from now on, it's only their journals I watch. :XD:
Since I did that, there's been a whole lot less number of journals.
UltraTheHedgetoaster Featured By Owner Jun 9, 2008  Hobbyist Artist
Ahh ^^;

Well, I apparently don't write a new journal that often, but once I get into it, I'm writing. ^^
DCLeadboot Featured By Owner Jun 10, 2008  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Hmm, but I see you're on YouTube too! :D
