Sega's currently holding a contest for Sonic's 19th birthday (which was last month), giving out prices to the 100 best entries, best entry winning a trip to Tokio to meet Team Sonic.
The catch is, they've actually let through that they're not very satisfied with the entries they got so far, so far as to say that anything better than "show my game collection" or "musicvideo using game-cutscenes" has a valid chance of winning. www.tssznews.com/2010/07/01/se…

The contest ends Jule 12th, here's some rules and suggestions on what to do: blogs.sega.com/usa/2010/06/23/…
Well, they didn't really mention anything about flash, but they also didn't say that it was not allowed.

Personally, I don't have much of an idea, but perhaps by sharing this info I'm giving a chance to some other people. :)
Eh, I might update this later if I should get any ideas to ask you about what you think of them. :P
  • Listening to: 8 bit people
  • Reading: videogame magazines
  • Drinking: liquid apples

anyone who still likes sonic that much is mentally incapable of creating a creative entry.

well, for one, I don't think they'd want people to submit their "old stuff" and rather make new one,
plus, I'm not sure if they would accept a parody, which partly also criticizes them, for a winning entry

eh, nothing,
at least not for myself

I don't have time right now for a project like this under such time constraints;
plus, for filming anything, I'd need daylight, while however, I work on my Diploma Thesis most of the daytime.

But I guess I can inspire others who have the time
If they give me something to work with, maybe I can give them some inspiration back?

I ain't gonna do it. For one thing, it demands me to show myself being enthusiastic about being a Sonic fan. That could've worked 10 years ago. I CAN'T FAKE ENTHUSIASM!!!

Hm. I wonder if I ever get into the situation you (and all other people who prefer the 2D old-school Sonic) are in now.
The character / series changing so much that's it's not the series you once enjoyed anymore.

To be honest, if it wasn't for the MASSIVE wave of people and videogame reporters complaining about how Sonic sucks, I wouldn't have guessed. :P

Sure, I don't like all games, some are just silly - the black knight for example, I especially waited till that was only 20€ to see if it was any good ... and it isn't.

...and some games have good aspects, and bad aspects.
Like Sonic 2006 and Sonic Unleashed.
(the Werehog actually gets more fun later on, still, not as good as the daytime stages of course)

That's also why I don't buy every title that has the word "Sonic" on it.
Last good Sonic game I played was Unleashed I guess (and I don't have All Star Racing, I just generally end up loosing motivation on racing games).

Maybe whoever said that Sonic needed to "slow down" and focus on fewer games at higher quality was right
- but I'm slowly getting more annoyed whenever I read a videogame review that tells me right at the beginning that Sonic in 3D just generally sucks, and that's he's "got to go back to his roots". -_-
I'm happy for the people who want a new classic Sonic game to actually get one, but my "being happy" is more and more mixing with "being annoyed" by everybody complaining how much the Sonic games I like completelly suck.

Is this how it started for you when Sonic started deviating from his 2D-origins? :?

Well, it had less to do with the games (majority of later console games just were bad) and more so with the fanbase itself. The fanatics, the ranters, the fan girls, the people who say the dumbest stuff, write and draw the stupidest of things... you know what I mean. Just the more I hear and see of these fans, the more it makes me feel ashamed to consider myself a big fan of this series, as I used to be long ago. But now, not so much any more.
